The Bronze Drakes were an earlier attempt to design and mass-produce the Confederate’s standard warship that went horribly wrong. So they were repurposed en-mass as workhorses that sustain the Grey Belt settlements.
They offer a reliable and rather safe way of transporting goods between places, could put up a decent fight, and are fairly cheap to produce. The freighter is often found everywhere across all belts as goods transport.
